HD Live Video with the Vorbeck HD4 Harness

The Vorbeck HD4 Harness is a wearable communication system. It has the bandwidth to carry real-time, high quality streaming video, audio and data through the network.

Incident command can connect to the camera on the Harness using a wireless device, such as a PC or monitor.
The Harness automatically forms a secure, self-healing network with other Harnesses and Drop Nodes. The network is powered by Rajant InstaMesh technology, which enables ad-hoc networks of Harnesses and Drop Nodes. This connects team members and incident command in environments that usually have no RF signal, such as tunnels, skyscrapers and basements.
Vorbeck’s body worn communications system acts as a WiFi hotspot. Any team member with a mobile device, and the correct authorisation, can view another member’s video feed. This provides constant remote monitoring of situations and vital communications with subject matter experts, who can advise them in real-time.
On the image on the right you can see:
- Five cameras from four Harnesses and two Drop Nodes are being monitored using a PC by Incident Command.
- Pan/Tilt/Zoom on each node can be remotely controlled.
- Anyone connected to the stream has the option to view any video feed.
Having the ability to send and receive live video footage between team members and Incident Command gives full transparency of the operation, thereby improving safety and efficiency for all those involved.
The Harness includes:

Circular polarised antennas in mining industries
Circular polarisation has opened a new door in underground mining and tunnelling communication. It allows antenna signal to travel through tunnels, avoiding potential obstructions, and creating a reliable signal throughout.
The radio waves transmitted with this type of polarisation are not constrained to just linear or horizontal situations when bouncing off the walls. They create a mirror effect, making a cylinder shape as they travel down the tunnel. The radio waves can radiate around obstacles, enabling them to adapt well in various tunnel dimensions. Circular polarisation prevents these waves from fading, which they are likely to do with vertical and horizontal polarisation, and allows those working in these conditions to maintain constant communication and situational awareness.
The Poynting MinePoynt HELI antennas have been designed for use in mining and tunnelling industries, with patented circular polarisation technology.
There’s been numerous tests performed in mines over the past few years to examine the benefits of using these antennas. One of these tests involved a large train moving through a tunnel. Significant signal loss was expected, but was unchanged due to the way the signal propagated around the obstacle.
Within these tunnels there are lots of potential issues that can affect the strength of the signal, including:
- Reflective tunnel surfaces
- High clutter environments that occupy and obstruct the standard propagation paths
- Narrow spaces
- No line of site, due to twisting tunnels and irregular turns
- Irregular dimensions and shapes of tunnels
The HELI antennas have been designed to overcome these obstructions and maintain a reliable signal within these harsh environments.
TYPES OF POLARISATION

Linear Polarisation (vertical and horizontal)
- Rotates unpredictably down a tunnel
- The propagation is affected by tunnel dimensions and surfaces
- Signal is unreliable and can fade
- Unable to propagate around obstacles
- First reflections cause significant signal interference
Circular Polarisation

- Contains all polarisations, making significantly more reliable radio links
- Propagation adapts better within tunnel dimensions
- Circular polarisation propagates past obstacles and obstructions more reliably
- You can get both left-hand and right-hand circular polarisation
The MinePoynt HELI range has been established for several years, and is deployed in a number of mines and tunnels across Europe, Australia, Africa, USA, Canada and more. The range offers both dual-band 2.4/5GHz and LTE/5G antennas in a smaller size enclosure compared to their bigger brothers, the popular HELI-3, HELI-4 and HELI- 8. The antennas offer medium to high gain, whilst providing the smallest possible installation height for mounting on tunnel roofs and walls.

Poynting introduces two new OMNI-directional antennas
Poynting has introduced two new OMNI-directional antenna solutions, both with the same electrical specifications, but each designed for either marine applications or rural environments. These two new solutions are based on the very popular OMNI-291 and OMNI-292 antennas, also known as the best all-round LTE-5G OMNI-directional antennas. They have similar characteristics, but the two new models provide improved reception capability on the most popular 5G/LTE cellular bands.
Both antennas achieve exceptional OMNI-directional performance, with a medium gain and wide vertical beamwidth when operating on lower frequency bands. When operating on higher frequency bands, they offer high gain and a narrower, vertical beamwidth.
The OMNI-493 is tuned to cover a large range of new frequencies, ranging from 617 MHz to 3800 MHz, ensuring it will accommodate for Band 71:617-698MHz, and makes it a perfect addition to a marine and coastal portfolio. The antenna performs well on lower bands, allowing extra reach to be added, whilst providing better and stronger throughput. It has been designed specifically to prevent water ingress, allowing it to withstand tough water conditions, as well as salt water, chemical, toxic and corrosive environments.
The OMNI-493 is extremely reliable and a good all-round option that will consistently ensure 3G,4G and 5G connectivity when out at sea or in remote areas.
The OMNI-293 is the urban version of this antenna and excels when it comes to 5G frequencies. Similar to the OMNI-493, it performs well at Band 71 (617-698 MHz), which is being introduced in more and more countries. This future-proofs both antennas and makes them useable in all parts of the world. The OMNI-293 has been designed to prevent water and dust ingress when installed outdoors. It’s also UV and weather protected and can be used in commercial, industrial, residential, and rural implementations.
The exceptional wideband performance of this antenna is an important factor for future 5G and LTE technologies as they require features, such as Carrier Aggregation, to provide the best possible reception and throughput over multiple frequency bands simultaneously.
